Has your digital content grown stale? Learn how to make your content the best it can be.

Have you ever been to Old Las Vegas, Fremont Street in particular? At night when you walk down the street, it is crazy with life. Music is pumping from live bands, slot machines are ringing at the entrances of casinos and vintage neon signs are shining with all their glory. Suddenly something from above catches your eye and you become lost in the experience. Imagery, lights, messaging…it is all happening above and around you. It is magical. You simply continue walking, taking it all in.

A lot of people have a love/hate relationship with Vegas but no one can deny how immersed you become on Fremont Street. We see digital content everyday, it is viewed by you and your customers. It is easy to ignore but done right it can be a magical customer experience, an experience they may not realize they are having.

There is a lot of work that goes into creating content that engages customers, so it is important to build a solid plan. Here are a few tips to get you going in the right direction.

Step 1: Research and Inspiration

Look around you…inspiration is everywhere! The first step in creating good content is research what your audience wants to see and to seek inspiration. If you have a current bank of content you probably already have something that is of interest to your audience.

When beginning your research ask yourself these questions:

  1. Am I solving a particular problem?
  2. Is my content written in a way to capture my audience?
  3. Is there a call-to-action?

Once you answer these questions you can ensure your existing content is the best it can be.  Now optimize it,  then move on to creating some new content. By taking the time to embrace this step, you will set the foundation for your whole content strategy. Once you feel inspired, there is no end to what you can create.

Step 2: Create the content

Step 2 in creating good content is taking what you’ve learned and using it to develop a new overall strategy. Doing market research to gain customer feedback and learning your target audience’s pain points will provide you with valuable insight. Drive action by gathering this info:

  1. Market research
  2. Customer feedback, online reviews, etc.
  3. Research your competition

Now that you have gathered all the above information, topic brainstorming and content ideation can begin. This is the part that will take the longest and be the most rewarding.

Step 3: Distribute content

You’ve researched, you’ve brainstormed and created a strategy now what?!

Step 3 in creating good content, is distributing the content strategically.

With a stockpile of relevant and interesting ideas, you can begin work on this part of your strategy. You’ll need to decide how to present your digital signage content to be the most effective for your audience. This is assuming that you have screens/devices in optimal locations, where your customers will see them.

Ask yourself a few questions before uploading your content.

  1. Should the content be automated? Should it be static? Is it interactive?
  2. What experience do I want my users to have?
  3. Should my content be on one screen or multiple screens?

Ensure all content is optimized for the intended screen as well the info is clear and concise. Remember you have about 3 seconds to grab the attention of a passerby, so this last step is crucial. Clean transitions, clear messaging and images are very important. Create templates for the screens to make updating even easier. If you are not sure how, contact us and we can help you.

Once you have taken these steps you will be well on your way to engaging your customers with amazing, relevant, fresh content. As well, I would not be surprised if you see a rise your sales.
